Should the Republicans meet with President Obama to discuss their proposals for the reform of healthcare legislation?
No! |
As with everything else involved with Obama, the meeting on Thursday is pure political theatre. It has nothing whatever to do with compromise or changes in his proposed healthcare reform. |
The Republicans should not be intimidated into believing that failure to meet with the President will paint them as obstructionists. They are in office for purpose of obstructing this legislative monstrosity and the Senate’s Harry Reid has made it clear he intends to pass any bill that the House sends. Speaker Pelosi has said as much too. |
Speaker Pelosi, however, is presiding over a House in which many of its Democrat members are in full flight from Obamacare, knowing that a vote for it is a vote to be defeated in the November midterm elections. Looking across to the Senate, they know that Scott Brown (R-MA) was elected primarily for his opposition to Obamacare. Read more at canadafreepress.com |
Cheney received wild cheers and a standing ovation when he appeared, unannounced, on the stage following remarks by his daughter, Liz Cheney. A man in the crowd shouted, “Thank you.”
The former vice president, who has been one of the Obama administration’s biggest critics, spoke for only a few minutes. Former Vice President Dick Cheney made a surprise appearance at a gathering of several thousand conservatives in Washington Thursday, predicting that President Obama will be voted out of office in 2012. |
“The developments that we’ve seen over the last several months are enormously encouraging,” Cheney said to CPAC, the gathering organized by the American Conservative Union Foundation. |
Cheney pointed to recent elections in New Jersey, Virginia and Massachusetts, and said “the sky’s the limit” electorally for Republicans this year. |
“I think 2010 is going to be a phenomenal year,” Cheney said. “And I think Barack Obama is a one-term president.” |
One of the most incredible claims made by President Obama during the health care debate was that his plan was “deficit neutral”. That means that the cost of Obamacare would be completely offset by 948 Billion dollars over the next 10 years from savings in Medicare and Medicaid; and one teensy little 309 Billion dollar tax hit to those rotten richers. Don’t believe me? Here is a chart taken directly from the White House website. |
Your eyes do not lie. The President of the United States claims he can save us taxpayers almost a trillion dollars over the next decade. How could such a powerful argument be ignored by the American public and why is a Republican revolution underway? Probably because most Americans, unlike the Congressional Budget Office, believed Mr. Obama was either lying or delusional. History supports this view as our elected officials have never demonstrated frugality on this scale. Read more at bovinescatologist.com |
The fact that [Barbara] Boxer’s support has been stuck in the mid-40s for several surveys no matter which Republican she is matched against continues to suggest that the race for now is about her rather than about those who are running against her. |
Now, get this, while the state’s junior Senate polls no better than 47% against the three Republicans vying for the chance to replace her, leading my gal Carly and her more serious rival Tom Campbell by four points (46-42) and (45-41) respectively, she runs more than 10 points behind President Obama’s approval rate in the Golden State. Here, despite a sour economy with an unemployment rate topping 12%, one of the highest in the nation, the President’s approval stands at 58%, one of the highest in the nation. The talk in Washington may be of bipartisanship, but the acrimony is increasing. |
Democratic campaign organizations on Thursday increased the ferocity of their attacks on Republicans, doubling down on a strategy of political gamesmanship that President Obama himself has come out against. |
The organization that grew out of the Obama campaign accused Republicans of spreading “lies” about health-care reform to “scare voters.” |
The president himself decried Republican tactics to hold up his nominees that he said “enrage” the American people. |
Senior citizens in four states, however, were probably the most enraged Thursday if they heard the attacks on the Republican party emanating from the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC). |
“GOP draws up plan to kill Social Security,” screamed the headline of an e-mail from the DSCC, targeting Republicans running for Senate seats in four states. |
Immediate Action to Cut Spending Needed to Help Spark Economy, Boost American Job Creation, GOP Leader Argues |
WASHINGTON, Feb. 9 /Standard Newswire/ – In a meeting at the White House this morning, House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) asked President Obama to use his presidential rescissions authority to force Congress to immediately begin cutting wasteful Washington spending, and pledged that House Republicans will support him if he does. |
“Immediate action to address Washington’s out-of-control spending is needed to spark the economy and provide greater certainty to small businesses alarmed by Washington’s spending, taxing, and borrowing,” Boehner said. “We cannot afford to simply punt the spending issue to a commission that won’t even release its recommendations until the end of the year. If President Obama will use his authority to force Congress to start cutting spending now, Republicans will stand with him and help him get it done.” Read more at www.standardnewswire.com |
Republicans say Mr. Obama’s list was already fairly short. They rejected out of hand his renewed push for health care and his call to curb a Supreme Court ruling on campaign finance, leaving drilling for oil and gas here at home, pushing nuclear power and enacting more free-trade agreements as the chief areas that drew applause from the GOP.
|
But Democrats have balked at the trade agreements. And Republicans said the budget that the president proposed last week shows he isn’t serious about energy because he zeroed out funding for the planned nuclear waste facility. They also said Mr. Obama’s budget belies his support for drilling because it assumes less revenue from that.

CBS put up a poll to grade the Fearless Reader. |
Amazingly, President Obama scores an “F” on every issue. |
In his regular Saturday radio address this week, President Obama outlined a list of “common-sense steps” that would make it easier for US workers to save for their retirements.
President Obama declared that these changes were necessary due to $2 trillion dollars in retirement savings being wiped out over the past two years. |
| One of the proposed changes? Allowing people to request that any tax refund be sent as a government savings bond instead of a check. |
| This change will be active as of 2010, and will require a simple check of a box on your tax return to enroll in the program. |
| If you opt in to this program, then the government will send you your tax refund in the form of Series I Savings Bonds. |
| This program will be enhanced even further in 2011, as people will be able to name others (such as their children) as co-owners of the bonds. |
But “this isn’t a normal environment,” says a senior analyst at Ned Davis Research. |
Well, it’s normal – for a depression. When word gets around, you’ll see stocks lose ground. Housing will probably go down in price too. |
Meanwhile, over on the other side of the vise, Mr. Obama says he wants to raise taxes on the rich and on businesses by $1.9 trillion. Let’s see. We’ll make some guesstimates. There are about 100 million families in the US. Of those, about half are net taxpayers. And the top 10% are said to own half the wealth in the US and already pay 66% of its total taxes. Looks like they’re going to get whacked again. Each of the ‘rich’ families will pay nearly $200,000 more in taxes. |
Here’s a comment from Chris Edwards of the Cato Institute: |
“President Obama has introduced his budget for next year. He proposes that the government spend $3.83 trillion in fiscal 2011. To put that number into context, let’s take a trip down memory lane. Read more at dailyreckoning.com |
